** NEW SERVICE **
NOKIA FIRMWARE UPGRADE SERVICE
Post-in
Nokia Mobile Phone firmware upgrade service available now!
**This
upgrade service is ONLY available to UK customers**
What is Nokia Firmware Upgrading?
When most mobile phones are released to
the public for purchase/upgrade/etc, the phones are shipped with the 'current'
software (firmware) installed. This firmware could be outdated immediately
as the phones themselves could be sitting on a shelf for months on end
until they are sold to you. Upgrading the phone to the 'latest' firmware
ensures that you are getting the most out of the phone as intended by you
and Nokia when you bought it.
So why
the need to upgrade?
If
you imagine the phone's firmware like a computer's Operating System, i.e.
Microsoft® Windows XP™ or Linux, then you'll know about
the updates that are available to you when they improve on a feature,
whether it's an update for a security patch or fault in a specific program
or even just to give you new features.
Well, a mobile phone manufacturer does the same with their firmware
updates; they improve on features, fix known problems and 'bugs' (faults)
and/or provide extra functions (phone dependant of course). As an example,
when Nokia brought out the N70 ('Nseries' range),
the first couple of firmwares available
(including the ones shipped with the phone) provided the phone with a
terrible Bluetooth Connectivity issue, whereby connected devices would
connect/disconnect/connect etc. Latest Firmwares
available resolve this issue.
So why
use Advanced PC's to upgrade your phone?
If
you are reading this, chances are you already know about firmware upgrading
and it's benefits. Say for example you have an 'Orange' provided N70. Many providers like Orange will give you 'extra' on the phone; in Orange's case, it's a
really nice 'Desktop'. We all know it's not. Providers' extras tend to be
more of a hindrance, rather than any help and are known to stop certain
functionality of the phone as intended.
If you were to take your phone to Carphone
Warehouse or any other Nokia Service Centre, they would have to give you
the providers firmware (Orange/T-Mobile etc). This
is fruitless as it's this very content that's causing you the no end of
headaches with your phone.
We use Original Nokia Firmwares so can rid you of
those nasty 'extras' and give your phone the full functionality as you
wanted it to be in the first place. If you do happen to like your Service
Providers content, then we can give you the latest firmware provided by
them too (Note though that sometimes a Providers firmware is out of date).
This can be advised to us when you order the upgrade.
How
would I know what my current firmware version is?
Simply
press the following keys on your phone (in standby/desktop mode) and in
this order:
*#0000#
You will see something like this (N95 used as example):
V 30.0.015
05-09-08
RM-159
Once you
have this information, take a note of it and make reference to the
table/list below. If the version on the list by your phone model is showing
higher, then you'd ideally need an upgrade. If your phone is working fine
as it is and you don't seem to have any fault, then it's upto you if you require the upgrade.
So how
much will this upgrade cost me?
Every
phone that we upgrade is charged at £15GBP. This includes a firmware upgrade,
test and then it's sent via a Recorded Delivery service back to your door.
We use either Initial City-Link or Royal Mail for providing the postal
service. In both cases, your phone is covered by insurances.
Why not
talk to friends and family about having their phones upgraded to? (we can
only currently upgrade Nokia's) That way, you can combine them together in
the same package to save on postal costs sending them to us (unfortunately
we can't cover the costs involved for sending us the phones).
How long
does it take to upgrade my phone?
We
usually upgrade your phones and send them back to you the same day too if
possible. Say you were reading this on Monday morning at work, decided you
wanted the service we are providing, popped your phone in a padded envelope
and sent it off that afternoon.. We'd receive it
Tuesday morning, get it upgraded to your requirements and get it back out
to you that afternoon / evening. You'd take receipt of your phone at home
or work place Wednesday.
Tell me
what do I have to do to get my Nokia Phone Upgraded then..
It's
extremely simple:
Step 1 - Take a look at the list below to see if your phone model has
a newer version available (we update this daily so check back if an upgrade
isn't available). If so, then continue on to step 2.
Step 2 - Click here to complete the
Order Form and once completed, you will see a confirmation page with
the details you entered. You will then have the option of paying via
Credit/Debit card (add to basket below). If you would rather send in a cheque or postal order then simply close the payment
screen. Your order notification will come to us automatically, pending the
arrival of your phone.
Step
3 - If
you have a printer, we would recommend you print this confirmation off. If
you like, you can also put a copy of the confirmation with your phone (we
check the IMEI number of the phone with the order when it arrives). If you
don't have the facility to print, then just write down the information we
need onto a signed piece of paper (Your name, mobile model number and
IMEI).
Step
4 - Send
us your phone, the confirmation page (not essential) with any payment still
due (you'll have the option to pay via Credit/Debit Card using Paypal upon ordering, or you can send in a Cheque or Postal Order made payable to Advanced
Personal Computers Ltd), to:
Nokia
Phone Upgrade Service
Advanced Personal Computers Ltd
5 Sunnyside
Hinckley
Leicestershire
LE10 1TE
Upon
receiving your phone(s), we'll endeavour to get
it upgraded and sent out the very same day!
How do I
go about paying for this service?
When
you go through the Order Form, you'll be asked if you want to pay via
Credit or Debit Card using the secure online payment system of Paypal.
If you are familiar with this service, you may even have an account with
them but you don't need an account with Paypal to
use this service from us.
We also accept Cheques, Postal Orders or even
cash (sent at your own risk). All Cheques and
Postal Orders must be made payable to Advanced Personal Computers Ltd. Place these
types of payment into the same package as your phone. Click below to pay
for this service via Credit/Debit card.
How do I
pack the phone so it reaches you safely?
·
Take your SIM card out as we don't require this for
the upgrade. Keep it safe though as it's fragile
and very small!
·
If applicable, also take out any 'additional/extra'
memory/storage cards as we don't require this either. Again, keep this
safe.
·
Ideally we would need the phone battery fully charged
but this isn't necessary. Either way, we do need the battery though.
·
Put the phone & battery, order form (duly signed)
and any postal payments (Cheques etc) into a
padded envelope; Jiffy bags or equivalent are ideal for this!
·
Seal it all up and post off to us at the address
above. It is recommended that you use a Recorded Service for posting as
this will ensure we receive it safely and securely.
Can I
rely on Advanced Personal Computers Ltd to look after my phone?
